Colored glass filters are widely used for order sorting, light attenuation, and spectral selection of a broadband source. They are significantly less ex- pensive than multi-layer coated filters which have sharper cut-on and cut-off wavelengths and better rejection.
They are often used for longpass and bandpass filters, coated substrate ce- mented with colored glass which have different absorption and transmission properties across the spectrum.
